Smoke Flavored and Wood Aged Beer 8 º 40 IBU

Schlenkerla

This deep amber Doppelbock showcases a sophisticated departure from tradition by employing Oak Smoke Malt rather than beechwood. The resulting aroma is a multi-layered, smooth wood-smoke profile that avoids aggressive intensity, revealing subtle nuances of toasted timber. A dense, bready malt backbone provides a rich foundation, perfectly balancing the multifaceted bitterness of Hallertau aroma hops. With its 8% alcohol content, the beer presents a graceful warmth that complements its medium-full body. Long maturation in deep cellars ensures a clean, harmonious finish where the refined smoke and spicy hop character of the Hallertau linger elegantly against the toasty malt backdrop.

Appearance. Deep amber to coppery-brown (18-22 SRM); clear with excellent clarity; features a large, creamy, long-lasting tan-colored head with significant lacing.

Aroma. High intensity blend of smooth, woody oak smoke and rich, toasty malt; the smoke character is multi-layered and refined. Low spicy and herbal hop aroma. Clean lager fermentation profile with no esters or phenols beyond the smoke.

Taste. Initial impression is rich and malty with a toasty sweetness. The flavor is defined by a mutually supportive blend of smooth oak smoke and bready malt. Moderate hop bitterness provides balance, while Hallertau hops offer a subtle spicy flavor. The finish is medium-dry and clean, with a lingering aftertaste of refined wood smoke and malt richness.

While for the classic “Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier” traditionally beech has been – and still is – used, the malt for “Schlenkerla Oak Smoke” is kilned with oak wood. The resulting Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in “Schlenkerla Oak Smoke” is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops.
