Brouwerij De RankeIn the early 80’s we -“beer lovers”- were concerned about the mass-disappearance of many small and medium-sized breweries in Belgium. Considering that they were the breweries capable of making the best beers. It was also alarming that during that period lots of outstanding, bitter beers were sweetened to meet the demands of mass-consumption. Assuming that people didn’t like the bitter taste anymore. The reality was that new techniques allowed using hop-extracts rather than hop-flowers, which allowed for cheaper production. Also, the industrial manufacturers believed that the taste of beer should be neutral in order to reach the masses (combined with mass-marketing). These developments in the beer industry led to us undertaking action to prove that quality can only be guaranteed with the best raw materials and with respect for traditional methods.

At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

De Ranke è un birrificio belga situato poco distante dal confine francese,a Dottignies, tra Vallonia e Fiandre. La zona è molto conosciuta per le coltivazioni di luppolo di pregevole qualità, che è l’elemento che contraddistingue tutta la produzione di De Ranke.
La produzione del birrificio si basa infatti sul luppolo e sui cereali coltivati nelle malghe belga, che concorrono nella produzione di birre di altissima qualità. De Ranke vede la luce nel 1996 grazie alla collaborazione tra Nino Bacelle e Guido Devos, già noti nell’ambiente birrario. Dopo un primo periodo nel quale affidano la produzione ad impianti esterni, nel 2005 introducono la propria sala cottura, aumentando la produzione sino a 5000 hl all’anno a seguito della domanda sempre più crescente.
Le birre di De Ranke sono oggi vendute in tutto il Belgio ed esportate in numerosi paesi. Oggi le 15 birre prodotte da De Ranke sono prodotti ambiti e riconosciuti per qualità ed estro creativo.

Mentre la maggior parte delle birre natalizie sono ricche e dolci, questa è di colore ambrato, 7% vol. di gradazione alcolica, forte e ha un sapore piuttosto amaro (IBU 50). Tripudio di luppolatura!
Il gusto complesso si completa con l’aggiunta di liquirizia. Nella ricetta possiamo trovare anche malto chiaro, malto Munich, malto caramello, luppolo Brewers Gold e luppolo Hallertau.
