This quintessential Doppelbock pours a deep mahogany with brilliant ruby highlights and a dense, tan head. Appearance. Deep mahogany to nearly black color (approx. 25 SRM) with brilliant ruby highlights. Features a large, creamy, tan-colored head with exceptional persistence and dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of rich, toasted Munich malt and Maillard products. Distinctive notes of toasted nuts, hints of cedar, and dark fruit leather. No hop aroma; clean fermentation profile with a very light, well-integrated alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression of rich, bready malt fullness. Mid-palate reveals toasted crusts and a developing coffee character that becomes more dominant in the aftertaste. Malt-forward balance with moderately low bitterness. Finishes clean and surprisingly dry for such a hearty beer, lacking the cloying sweetness common to the style.
