TIPOLOGIA: BELGIAN DARK STRONG ALE IBU 27 ABV 11.3% FORMATO: 33cl BIRRIFICIO: ROCHEFORT NAZIONE: BEL Aggiungi al carrello Westvleteren Il birrificio di Westvleteren si trova all’interno dell’Abbazia di Nostra Signora di Sint Sixtus nel piccolo comune di Vleteren, nella Fiandre Occidentali, poco lontano dal confine con la Francia e distante una decina di chilometri a nord del confine con la Vallonia. Il complesso religioso che ospita il birrificio nasce nel 1814: Jan-Baptist Victoroor si stabilisce nei boschi dell’attuale Vleteren e accoglie tre eremiti provenienti dal vicino monastero francese di Mont des Cats. Si forma una nuova comunità, che fonderà nel 1831 il monastero. L’attività brassicola inizia nel 1838 grazie alla licenza birraria firmata da Re Leopoldo I il 19 aprile 1839 e iniziano la produzione di birra, destinata al consumo interno. Nel 1871 il monastero viene “promosso” ad Abbazia e la produzione di birra diventa centrale: Westvleteren trascorre indenne i periodi delle due guerre mondiali e la produzione di birra prosegue, con modifiche sostanziali dell’impianto e di tutta la linea produttiva. Nel 1990 viene messo in funzione l’attuale birrificio, che produce solo 6000 hl/anno: tale limite produttivo ha reso le birre di Westvleteren molto ricercate. Ad oggi le birre di Westvleteren – ritenute le più preziose al mondo – rimangono 3: Westvleteren Blond, Westvleteren 8 e Westvleteren 12.

La Westvleteren 8°, che prende il nome dalla gradazione alcolica, è un superbo esempio dello stile trappista; come nel caso delle Rochefort, le sue caratteristiche si avvicinano a quelle di una strong dark ale, mantenedo però quella complessità connaturata al marchio ''trappiste authentique''. Appena fuori dalla bottiglia la birra sprigiona un potente aroma di malto, lievito ed alcol, il tutto con una irresistibile sfumatura di ''fatto in casa''; impressione, del resto, confermata dal colore bruno opaco, e dalla schiuma ruvida e ruspante. In bocca si avverte una densità mai troppo pesante, e un frizzante assai vivace. Il gusto è fruttato, di prugna e arance candite, con un deciso tocco di brandy casereccio, e una sorprendente evoluzione verso l'amaretto. Il finale è di pane appena sfornato, con un complesso retrogusto liquoroso.
Una grande birra, da consumare con parsimonia e a temperatura di cantina, ma soprattutto da servire con cautela, vista la vivacità della schiuma. Consigliata con formaggi morbidi e stagionati: il matrimonio più azzeccato è con lo chèvre.

La Trappist Westvleteren 8 es una cerveza de estilo Belgian Dubbel reconocible por su corona de color azul, es una de las tres recetas que la abadía elabora tradicionalmente. Tiene un cuerpo de densidad media, color ambarino oscuro, con brillos rubí. Con una corona de espuma densa, de color siena, y muy persistente. Aromas complejos e intensos con notas destacadas a fruta, uva pasa, higos, ciruelas e incluso melón. En boca es de cuerpo medio-alto, compleja, dulce y afrutada, correspondiendo a los aromas detectados en nariz. Con un detalle final especiado y amargo.
