Blonde Ale 6.5 º 17 IBU
This historical Belgian ale presents a vibrant, cloudy blond profile, reviving a lost Antwerp tradition. The complex grist of barley, wheat, oats, and buckwheat creates a layered bread-like foundation with a rustic, nutty undertone. Driven by a historic Belgian yeast strain, the aroma is intensely fruity, offering a bouquet of ripe stone fruits and subtle spicy phenols. The palate is accessible but distinctive, balancing the earthy qualities of buckwheat with the silky texture provided by oats. This Experimental Beer concludes with a clean, spicy Belgian hop finish, showcasing the unique heritage and multi-grain complexity of a true regional classic.
Appearance. Medium gold to deep blond (4-6 SRM) with a persistent, dense white head that leaves significant lacing. Noticeably cloudy to hazy due to the high protein content from wheat, oats, and buckwheat.
Aroma. High intensity fruity esters dominant, reminiscent of apricots, pears, and subtle citrus. A rich, multi-grain malt character provides notes of fresh bread and a slight nutty, earthy quality from the buckwheat. Low spicy and herbal hop aroma, with no diacetyl or DMS.
Taste. Rich, bready malt flavors from the barley and wheat are immediately present, followed by a rustic, slightly savory grain complexity. Medium-low bitterness provides balance without overpowering the delicate sweetness. Fruity esters echo the aroma, leading to a dry to off-dry finish with a lingering spicy, earthy buckwheat character and a clean yeast profile.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a notable creaminess and smooth texture derived from the oats and wheat. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a lively sparkle. Alcohol warmth is subtle and well-integrated at 6.5%, with no perceptible astringency despite the buckwheat.

330ml 6.5% Belgian cloudy blond beer from Antwerp. It dates back to the 17th century (and is probably even older), making it one of the oldest existing beers of Belgium. It was the most popular beer of the Antwerp region, so popular that a part of Antwerp was even named after the beer. (Seefhoek) With the disappearance of the smaller craft breweries (due to big industrial competition and WWI), the beer and the recipe were lost. After a search that took over 3 years, the recipe was recovered, and rebrewed using the original ingredients barley, wheat, oats and buckwheat, Belgian Hops and  historic yeast. The Antwerpse Brouw Compagnie was formed to relaunch this legendary beer.
