Tynt Meadow es la primera cerveza trapense de Gran Bretaña y la última en recibir oficialmente el sello de Auténtico Producto Trapense en 2018. Está elaborada por la abadía de Mount St Bernard en el condado de Leicestershire, y recibe su nombre para honrar el vínculo con la tierra donde se recuperó la vida monástica hace casi dos siglos y donde actualmente se asienta la abadía. Esta gran cerveza está elaborada en la tradición de cerveza artesanal británica, aunque también teniendo en cuenta las cervezas Trapenses tradicionales.
Os recordamos que para que una cerveza pueda ser calificada de “trapense”, debe de responder a una serie de criterios estrictos:
– La cerveza tiene que estar elaborada dentro de las paredes de una Abadía trapense, por los monjes trapenses o bajo su control.
– La cervecería debe depender del monasterio y la cultura de empresa debe inscribirse en el proyecto monástico.
– Generar beneficios no es el objetivo de la cervecería. Una parte de los beneficios se destina a la subsistencia de los monjes y al mantenimiento de la Abadía; el resto se destina para obras caritativas y las personas necesitadas. Armonía y personalidad monásticas

Vista: color caoba con ribetes rojizos, con una buena espuma beige compacta y persistente. Olfato: notas afrutadas, especiadas (regaliz) y ligeras notas de chocolate y caramelo. Gusto: en boca resulta igualmente comleja e intensa que en aroma, con notas especiadas (regaliz, pimienta negra), chocolate y notas afrutadas de higo maduro.
Sensación: cerveza de cuerpo pleno, con cierta robustez y un final cálido y seco. Es otra gran cerveza trapense que hace honor a ese sello tan emblemático.

La vida monástica en Occidente considera a San Benito, un monje del siglo VI, como su padre. Desde entonces, ha habido varias interpretaciones basadas en la regla que escribió. La reforma cisterciense, caracterizada por un deseo de mayor simplicidad, fue una de las más importantes y se originó en Citeaux, Francia, en 1098. Uno de sus fundadores, Stephen Harding, era inglés, y la nueva Orden, que se extendió rápidamente, pronto Llegó a Inglaterra. Nombres familiares como Fountains y Kirkstall, Rievaulx y Tintern se encuentran entre los 76 monasterios cistercienses que finalmente se fundaron en estas islas. Todos fueron suprimidos durante el reinado de Enrique VIII. La Abadía de Mount Saint Bernard fue fundada en 1835 en un terreno cedido por Ambrose de Lisle, que estaba ansioso por reintroducir la vida monástica en este país. Los monjes pronto se dedicaron a cultivar la tierra salvaje y árida y en 1837 se abrió el primer monasterio, diseñado por William Railton. Pero entonces, John, el decimosexto conde de Shrewsbury, hizo una donación para la construcción de un monasterio permanente. El arquitecto más famoso del Renacimiento gótico, Augustus Welby Pugin, ofreció sus servicios de forma gratuita y, en 1844, se inauguró el nuevo monasterio en el lugar donde aún se encuentra hoy. En 1848, Mount Saint Bernard fue elevado a la categoría de Abadía con el primer abad inglés desde la Reforma, Dom Bernard Palmer. Tynt Meadow Trappist Ale è l’unica birra prodotta dal primo birrificio trappista britannico, l’ultimo inserito in ordine di tempo dall’ Associazione Internazionale Trappista. Paragonata alle belgian dubbel, questa birra presenta molte caratteristiche delle strong ale inglesi, grazie anche all’uso di malti, luppolo e lievito inglesi. La Tynt Meadow ha un colore mogano con sfumature rosse e presenta una schiuma persistente color beige. Al naso offre sentori caldi di cioccolato e liquirizia e sentori fruttati. In bocca si ritrovano la dolcezza di cioccolato fondente e liquirizia, accompagnati da note fruttate di fico e note speziate pepate. Il finale è asciutto e lascia un sapore piacevolmente dolce.

La belgian dubbel è una ale belga scura e complessa, di corpo consistente e dai decisi toni maltati. La strong ale è di ispirazione britannica, dalla gradazione considerevole, che rifermenta in bottiglia.

Tynt Meadow è il solo birrificio trappista presente in Gran Bretagna, situato all’interno delle mura del monastero Mount St. Bernard di Coalville, nel Leicestershire. L’edificio religioso viene costruito nel 1835 da una comunità di monaci irlandesi provenienti da Mount Melleray, i quali badano al sostentamento del monastero con le proprie attività, che si arricchiscono solo nel 2018 con l’avvio della produzione ufficiale della propria birra trappista.

L’ATP concede l’esposizione del proprio logo a seguito del progetto riguardante la creazione del birrificio ideato nel 2013: Tynt Meadow diventa così il dodicesimo birrificio al mondo che può vantare l’inclusione nel prestigioso circolo delle birre trappiste.

Tynt Meadow è anche il toponimo della collina sulla quale sorge il monastero, ed è lo stesso nome adottato per battezzare la prima, e per ora unica, trappist ale inglese.
