Appearance. Dark copper to reddish-brown (12-22 SRM) with ruby highlights. Persistent off-white to light tan head with moderate lacing. Slight haze from being unfiltered and bottle-conditioned.
Aroma. High intensity with a sweet malt base of toffee and light chocolate. Prominent esters of black fruits and spicy notes of aniseed and liquorice. Low earthy hop aroma is present in the background.
Taste. Initial malt sweetness featuring toffee and caramel flavors. Mid-palate adds complexity with leather, liquorice, and dark fruit notes. Bitterness is medium-low and smooth, providing balance without being sharp. Finish is medium-dry with a lingering spicy and alcoholic warmth.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a robust character. Medium to medium-high carbonation from bottle conditioning. Noticeable alcohol warmth that is well-integrated and smooth. No astringency.
