Until 1958, this was the only Rochefort beer that was bottled in both 33 cc bottles and 75 cc bottles. It has a strong malt taste and is slightly bitter.

The aroma is warming with hints of raisins, prunes, spicy yeast, earthy tones, and the most prevalent, light chocolate. The taste is full and rich like a brown ale, but was not heavy on the palate. The carbonation adds to the light mouthfeel, yet the 7.5% ABV lets you know that this brew has some body.

Brasserie de Rochefort is a Belgian brewery which produces four beers designated as Trappist beers. The earliest mention of a brewery at the Trappist monastery of Rochefort Abbey dates from 1595. The abbey and its brewery were closed in 1794. The abbey was re-established in 1887 and the brewery was re-established in 1899. Around fifteen monks currently live at Rochefort Abbey. The water for the beer is drawn from a well inside the monastery walls. Rochefort uses Pilsener and Munich-type malts, and Hallertau and Golding hops.

Пиво имеет богатый коричневый цвет, слегка пряный хлебно-солодовый аромат и богатый, насыщенный, потрясающе сбалансированный вкус с нотами карамели и фруктов. Так как пивоварение в монастыре не является коммерческим, траппистское пиво доступно в очень ограниченном количестве и весьма желанно ценителями пива во всем мире. Пиво Траппист Рошфор 6 — самое редкое среди производимого пивоварней. Оно варится только один раз в год, его доля составляет всего 1% от общего производства пивоварни. "Траппист Рошфор" 6 награждено пивными критиками очень высокими баллами и рекомендацией "must try" ("обязательно попробовать"). Трапписты — это ветка цистерцианского монашеского ордена бенедиктинцев, возникшая в 1664 году. Сегодня существует 175 траппистских монастырей, но только семь из них (шесть — в Бельгии, один — в Голландии) имеют право использовать название "Trappist" для своего пива. Для этого должен быть соблюден определенный ряд правил: пиво варится в стенах аббатства траппистов, самими монахами или под их контролем; целью пивоварни не должно являться получение прибыли, а доходы используются для содержания монахов и аббатства и для благотворительных целей и социальной работы. Аббатство Нотр-Дам де Сен-Реми расположено на полпути между Брюсселем и Люксембургом, в небольшом городке Рошфор. Этот город является географическим центром небольшой природной территории Фаменн. Аббатство существует уже восемь веков. На территории монастыря есть своя сыроварня, винодельня, где производятся ликеры, и пивоварня, работающая с 1595 года. Ключевыми материалами, используемыми в производстве пива, являются чистейшая вода из источника, ячменный солод, сахар, хмель и дрожжи. Источник Tridaine с подземными водами расположен в непосредственной близости от аббатства. Вода из него естественно чистая и не подвергается никакой химической, физической или другой обработке. Что касается дрожжей, то это уникальный штамм, который хранится и тщательно охраняется в аббатстве на протяжении многих лет. Пивоварня выпускает три вида траппистского пива, которое умело сочетает традиции и вековой опыт, строгость и хай-тек.
