Abbaye de Rochefort 6 has a light citrus fruit taste, gently warmed, with some bittersweet orange notes and a hint of brown sugar.

The aroma is warming with hints of raisins, prunes, spicy yeast, earthy tones, and the most prevalent, light chocolate. The taste is full and rich like a brown ale, but was not heavy on the palate. The carbonation adds to the light mouthfeel, yet the 7.5% ABV lets you know that this brew has some body.

Brasserie de Rochefort is a Belgian brewery which produces four beers designated as Trappist beers. The earliest mention of a brewery at the Trappist monastery of Rochefort Abbey dates from 1595. The abbey and its brewery were closed in 1794. The abbey was re-established in 1887 and the brewery was re-established in 1899. Around fifteen monks currently live at Rochefort Abbey. The water for the beer is drawn from a well inside the monastery walls. Rochefort uses Pilsener and Munich-type malts, and Hallertau and Golding hops.

Так как пивоварение в монастыре не является коммерческим, траппистское пиво доступно в очень ограниченном количестве и весьма желанно ценителями пива во всем мире. Пиво Траппист Рошфор 6 — самое редкое среди производимого пивоварней. Оно варится только один раз в год, его доля составляет всего 1% от общего производства пивоварни. "Траппист Рошфор" 6 награждено пивными критиками очень высокими баллами и рекомендацией "must try" ("обязательно попробовать"). Трапписты — это ветка цистерцианского монашеского ордена бенедиктинцев, возникшая в 1664 году. Сегодня существует 175 траппистских монастырей, но только семь из них (шесть — в Бельгии, один — в Голландии) имеют право использовать название "Trappist" для своего пива. Для этого должен быть соблюден определенный ряд правил: пиво варится в стенах аббатства траппистов, самими монахами или под их контролем; целью пивоварни не должно являться получение прибыли, а доходы используются для содержания монахов и аббатства и для благотворительных целей и социальной работы. Аббатство Нотр-Дам де Сен-Реми расположено на полпути между Брюсселем и Люксембургом, в небольшом городке Рошфор. Этот город является географическим центром небольшой природной территории Фаменн. Аббатство существует уже восемь веков. На территории монастыря есть своя сыроварня, винодельня, где производятся ликеры, и пивоварня, работающая с 1595 года. Dit bier begint met een dichtheid van 16,5º Plato is 7,5% ABV. “Rochefort 6” is het oudste trappistenbier van Rochefort en werd tot het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog empirisch gebrouwen. Tot 1958 was dit het enige Rochefort-bier dat zowel in 33 cc-flessen als in 75 cc-flessen werd gebotteld. Het heeft een sterke moutige smaak en is licht bitter.
