Traquair Jacobite Ale is a regal Wee Heavy that bridges centuries of tradition with a unique sensory depth. Brewed in ancient copper kettles and fermented in oak, it presents a complex tapestry of rich, bready-toasty malt and deep caramel. The signature addition of coriander introduces an exotic, spicy perfume that intertwines with notes of dried plums and dark sugar. Despite its high gravity, the oak-influenced character provides a structured backdrop to the intense sweetness. This is a full-bodied ale where the warmth of 8% ABV is seamlessly integrated with hints of toffee and a subtle, lingering herbal complexity.

Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown with brilliant ruby highlights. It forms a dense, creamy tan head with moderate retention and displays evident legs upon swirling.

Aroma. High intensity malt profile dominated by rich caramel, toffee, and toasted graham crackers. The exotic addition of coriander provides a distinct spicy, slightly citrusy, and floral overlay that complements dark fruit esters of raisins and figs. A faint hint of woody oak adds further complexity.

Taste. The initial impression is profoundly sweet and malty, featuring layers of butterscotch, nougat, and toasted breadcrumbs. The coriander adds a unique spicy counterpoint that balances the malt richness. Hop bitterness is low, allowing the malt and spice to lead. The finish is long and warming, with a late suggestion of grainy roast and a subtle, dry woody character from the oak fermenters.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a thick, chewy texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a gentle lift to the palate. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, enhancing the mouthfeel without any harshness.
