La Trappe è un birrificio trappista olandese, situato all’interno dell’Abbazia di Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Van Koningshoeven. Il monastero nasce nel 1880 quando l’Abate Dom Dominicus Laces, del Monastero Trappista francese di Mont-des-Cats, incarica un monaco di trovare un luogo ove erigere il nuovo monastero.
L’anno successivo avviene l’insediamento dei monaci, e nel 1884 inizia l’attività di produzione della birra, che affianca l’agricoltura e l’allevamento. Dopo la crisi delle ale dovuta alla prosperità delle birre a bassa fermentazione in Europa, La Trappe focalizza la propria attenzione su altri prodotti e nel 1969 cede il birrificio a Stella Artois.
Dopo fasi alterne, nelle quali il marchio passa anche per le mani di Bavaria, dal 2005 il birrificio trappista ritorna alla tradizione. Le birre de La Trappe sono prodotte seguendo metodi tradizionali e con materie prime di qualità, inclusa l’acqua provenienti dai pozzi presenti nell’Abbazia.
