Manger får den fejlagtige opfattelse, at der er tale om en juleøl pga. den lille nisse på flasken. Det er imidlertid ikke en nisse, men i stedet en lille gnom, der optræder på alle øl fra bryggeriet d’Achouffe. Aromaen leder tankerne hen på ananas, halm og frugtkonserves. Farven er lidt diset gylden med et flot hvidt skum, der holder meget længe. Smagen er ganske fyldig – måske lidt cremet med strejf af appelsin, banan og karamel. Den har en lang og særdeles behagelig eftersmag!

Brasserie d’ Achouffe, meglio conosciuta come Chouffe o La Chouffe, è un marchio molto noto nel mondo della birra belga, e più in genere della birra di qualità. Nata nel 1982 nel villaggio di Achouffe, nel cuore delle Ardenne, grazie ai due fondatori Pierre Gobron e Chris Bauweraerts, che già dall’inizio degli anni 70 si cimentavano in produzioni casalinghe.
La produzione del marchio belga passa nel giro di un ventennio dai 49 litri a cotta sino ad una capacità di 70 hl a cotta. L’escalation del birrificio delle Ardenne raggiunge visibilità planetaria quando i due soci decidono di collaborare con i colossi della distribuzione e di adottare il formato da 33 cl.
Le birre della Brasserie d’ Achouffe sono famose anche per avere ripreso il folklore delle terre natie: il birrificio si trova infatti nella Valle delle Fate. Il termine Chouffe indica gli gnomi dalla barba bianca e dal cappello rosso che abitano i boschi, luoghi nei quali scorreva la fonte di birra che spillava dalla sorgente nel bosco di Cedrogne. Uno degli gnomi che fece visita a Pierre e Chris, donando loro la ricetta per la prima birra, La Chouffe. Oggi la fonte di acqua di Cedrogne alimenta ancora gli impianti del birrificio.
