Erdinger Pikantus
Erdinger Pikantus is a quintessential dark Weizenbock that masterfully bridges the gap between a robust bock and a lively wheat beer. It pours a deep ruby-brown, crowned by a thick, creamy head. The nose is a complex symphony of dark barley and wheat malts, offering inviting notes of toasted bread, fine nougat, and a distinctive hint of nutmeg. Despite its 7.3% strength, the mouthfeel remains velvety and smooth, avoiding excessive sweetness. On the palate, rich Maillard products provide a bready core complemented by subtle dark fruit esters and a clean, sparkling finish that highlights Erdinger’s refined fermentation character.
Appearance. Dark ruby-brown (22-25 SRM). Opaque with a characteristic yeast haze. Features a very thick, moussy, long-lasting light tan head with dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich, bready wheat and deeply toasted malt character with notes of nougat and nutmeg. Moderate banana esters and spicy clove phenols. Clean fermentation with a soft, integrated alcohol presence; no hop aroma.
Taste. Rich, bready malt initial impression with toasted accents and a hint of chocolate. Low bitterness allows a slightly sweet start, though it finishes remarkably dry. Complex yeast character provides banana and spice, while maturation adds notes of plum and raisin. No hop flavor.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a soft, fluffy, and creamy texture. High carbonation creates a sparkling lift on the tongue. Gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
