Brasserie de la Senne Petit Boulba

This session-strength Belgian Single embodies the Brasserie de la Senne philosophy of high attenuation and refined bitterness. Pouring a hazy pale straw due to a grist including wheat and oats, it leads with an aromatic bouquet of vibrant floral hops and fresh-cracked cereal grains. The palate is defined by its remarkable dryness and high effervescence, offering subtle layers of white orchard fruit and fine herbal touches. Despite its light stature, a firm bitterness anchors the finish, ensuring a crisp, refreshing experience that highlights the brewery’s signature yeast-driven complexity and spicy fermentation profile.
Appearance. Pale yellow to light gold (3–4 SRM). Cloudy and hazy from the addition of wheat and oats, topped with a persistent, billowy white head and fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring pronounced floral hop notes and a clean, fresh cereal malt base. Spicy Belgian yeast phenols, reminiscent of black pepper, meld with esters of pear and apple.
Taste. Initial impression of soft, grainy-sweet malt like fresh bread or crackers. Develops into moderate floral and herbal hop flavors with a medium-high bitterness relative to its size. The finish is exceptionally dry and crisp, leaving a lingering hop and yeast character of white fruit and spice.
Mouthfeel. Light-bodied and lean, yet smoothed by the use of oats. High, prickly carbonation enhances the refreshment. No alcohol warmth is present.

Petit Boulba is a blond & hoppy table beer with only 2.8% alcohol, with a blonde and cloudy appearance due to the use of wheat and oats.

Its aroma is very floral, with notes of fresh cereals. On the palate, these aromas develop further and blend with notes of white fruits and fine herbal touches.

Petit Boulba is slightly bitter and has a very dry and super-refreshing finish.

The story behind the name is amusing: Brewing in De La Senne's very first brewery in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw was entirely manual and really exhausting. For lunch, they dreamed of a light and flavourful table beer to quench their thirst... One day, Bernard had the idea to mix a Taras Boulba with an equal amount of sparkling water to make a "small beer". A super refreshing beer that wouldn’t prevent you from getting back to work in full shape! And they decided to call it the "Petit Boulba"...

De La Senne reused the name as a reminder of the early days, but of course this time they made the beer according to a specific recipe.
