TRAPPIST CZY DUBBEL?
W 1865 roku mnisi z Westmalle zaczęli warzyć ciemne piwo trapistów oprócz piwa stołowego. W 1926 r. dostosowali recepturę, podwajając ilość surowych składników, aby wyprodukować nowe, mocniejsze piwo. Dubbel to logiczna nazwa tego podwójnego piwa, choć częściej nazywa się je po prostu „trappistą”. Do dziś receptura z 1926 r. jest podstawą Westmalle Dubbel.
