Theakston Old Peculier Premium Ale Old Peculier ist ein wunderschönes Bier, das aus einer sehr großzügigen Mischung heller, kristallklarer und gerösteter Gerste mit zwei Bitterhopfen gebraut wird, kombiniert mit Fuggle-Hopfen, um ein Bier mit vollmundigem Geschmack zu ergeben. Subtile Kirsch- und reiche Fruchtnoten.

Theakston Old Peculier è la birra più prestigiosa dello storico birrificio dello Yorkshire, da molti definita una birra leggendaria (e oggetto di numerosi tentativi di riproduzione). Questa strong ale in classico stile britannico si presenta con il tipico colore rosso rubino che vira su toni più scuri, con un cappello di schiuma marrone scura persistente. Al naso risaltano le note di pane e caramello, unitamente a caffè ed importanti sentori di frutta (banana e ciliegia). In bocca risulta cremosa e morbida, si percepiscono note tostate ed erbacee che nel complesso conferiscono un carattere ben definito. Birra dal piacevolissimo finale, la Theakston Old Peculier rimane una di quelle birre da provare assolutamente almeno una volta nella vita, prodotta sin dal 1890.

Con il termine British Strong Ale si definiscono numerosi sottostili di birre, associate dal tenore alcolico importante ma mai elevato (in genere al di sotto di 8 ABV). Sono birre della grande tradizione anglosassone, ideali prodotti da maturazione e dal corpo deciso.

Theakston è uno storico birrificio inglese fondato nel 1827 nella cittadina di Masham, nello Yorkshire Dales, grazie a Robert Theakston, agricoltore e birraio che inizia a produrre birra che vende direttamente presso i locali adibiti a brewpub. Il sito ha un importante valore storico: 0Masham è infatti la sede della Corte del Peculiar, creata per il volere dell’Arcivescovo dello Yorkshire.

Nel 1875 viene fondato ufficialmente il birrificio: grazie all’aumento della produzione e al notevole riscontro da parte del pubblico, la fama di Theakston e delle sue birre comincia a circolare per tutto il paese. La crescente richiesta convince la proprietà ad acquisire un nuoto sito produttivo – la Carlisle Brewery – ma l’investimento porta più problemi che successi, decretando l’inizio di un declino che termina con la cessione di Theakston al gruppo Scottish & Newcastle.

Nel 2004 un clamoroso evento: gli eredi di Robert Theakston ritornano in possesso della brewery di famiglia, acquisendo nuovamente la proprietà: Theakston ritorna a casa e diventa negli anni uno dei più amati e importanti birrifici tradizionali dell’intera Inghilterra.

Una verdadera cerveza legendaria, con más de 100 años de antigüedad. Old Peculier es una cerveza Old Ale, oscura y rica, con aromas de frutas secas, caramelo y malta tostada. Cuerpo medio-pleno con sensación sedosa. Sabores a ciruelas, regaliz y un toque de azúcar morena, brindando un final suave y equilibrado que invita al siguiente sorbo.

Old Peculier je pravděpodobně jedním z nejznámějších a nejoblíbenějších piv v zemi. Toto jedinečné, krásné pivo je často napodobováno, ale nikdy se mu nic nevyrovná, a prodává se doslova po celém světě.

S nespočtem ocenění na svém kontě je to něco, na co může být každý Brit velmi hrdý, a je ztělesněním největší britské pivovarnické tradice.

V raných letech moderní pivovarnické éry, asi před dvěma sty lety, mnoho sládků vyrábělo v zimních měsících tmavé, silné „zásobní“ pivo, které poskytovalo základní množství kvašeného piva k přidávání do piv vařených v poněkud nestálejších letních měsících.

Old Peculier pravděpodobně vděčí za svůj původ právě tomuto. Název vzdává hold jedinečnému církevnímu statusu Mashamu jako „dvora podivínů“ a je také odkazem na silnou charakteristiku piva! Po mnoho let se mu láskyplně říkalo yorkshirský „vývar bláznů“.

In the early years of the modern brewing era, about two hundred years ago, many brewers produced a dark, strong ‘stock’ beer in the winter months, to provide a base amount of fermented beer to add to beers brewed in the rather more volatile months of the summer.

Old Peculier probably owes its origins to this. The name pays tribute to the unique ecclesiastical status of Masham as a ‘Court of the Peculier’ and is also reference to the strong characteristic of the beer! For many years it was affectionately referred to as Yorkshire’s ‘Lunatic’s Broth’.
