Shepherd Neame Fundada en 1698 en Faversham, Kent, por el mismo alcalde la ciudad, aunque existe evidencia de que la elaboración de cerveza se ha llevado a cabo en el mismo sitio desde al menos 1573. De propiedad familiar desde 1864, derivando con ello que junto con la cervecería Three Tuns en Shropshire, sea la cervecería más antigua de Gran Bretaña. Con más de un siglo de historia, continúa comprometida con la elaboración de la cerveza, tanto Cask Ales como cervezas filtradas, siempre respetando la tradición y manteniendo las recetas usadas desde siglos atrás, en combinación con los estándares de servicios contemporáneos y los más recientes avances tecnológicos. La producción actual es de alrededor de 350.00 HL. al año, exportando sus productos a más de 35 países. Además la compañía posee 328 pubs y hoteles, predominantemente en Kent, Londres y el sudeste de Inglaterra.

Spitfire Bitter von Shepherd Neame wird nur mit den feinsten Hopfen und der besten Braugerste aus der Grafschaft Kent gebraut. Die Farbe erinnert an dunkles Bernstein und Kastanien, der Geruch von Früchten, Toffee und Hopfen ist vorherrschend. Der Geschmack ist hopfig mit Gewürzaromen.
Dieses köstliche Bier wurde zuerst 1990 zur Erinnerung an den 50.Jahrestag der Luftschlacht über England (Battle of Britain) gebraut. Spitfire war ein berühmtes Jagdflugzeug im Zweiten Weltkrieg.
1994 wurde diesem Bier von der Internationalen Brau-Industrie die Goldmedaille verliehen.
SIEGEL ALS KÖNIGLICHER HOFLIEFERANT FÜR SHEPHERD NEAME BRAUEREI
Großbrittanniens älteste Brauerei Shepherd Neame erhielt von ihrer königlichen Hoheit, dem Prince of Wales, die königliche Urkunde für Hoflieferanten. Diese Urkunde bekommen Lieferanten, die regelmäßig mindestens fünf aufeinanderfolgende Jahre Waren oder Dienstleistungen an die Königin, den Duke of Edinburgh oder den Prince of Wales liefern.
Die erste Auszeichnung als königlicher Hoflieferant erhielt die Shepherd Neame Brauerei 1998 durch Prinz Charles für Grant’s Morella Cherry Brandy.
Dieses Getränk stammt von 1774, und wurde auch in Charles Dickens‘ Novelle The Pickwick Papers (dt. Die Pickwickier) erwähnt. Ein Favorit von Königin Victoria, es wurde ursprünglich von Thomas Grant und Söhnen in Dover produziert, bevor die Produktion nach Maidstone verlagert wurde. Schlißlich erwarb Shepherd Neame 1988 den Likörhersteller.
In Anerkennung der langjährigen zuverlässigen Belieferung mit speziellen Waren an Prinz Charles, wurde Shepherd Neame genehmigt, das Siegel des königlichen Hoflieferanten auf der Flaggschiffsorte Spitfire Premium Kentish Ale zu verwenden.
Geschäftsführer Jonathan Neame sagte: „ Wir sind überglücklich, zur Elitegruppe der britischen Hersteller von feinsten Lebensmitteln und Getränken zu gehören, die dieses königliche Siegel bekommen haben. Qualität und Herkunft sind das A und O von allem, was wir tun, und jeder in der Brauerei kann stolz darauf sein, dass seine Bemühungen auf diese Weise gewürdigt wurden.“
