Westmalle Tripel stands as the definitive Belgian Tripel, showcasing a luminous golden-yellow hue beneath a dense, rocky white head. Its complex aromatic bouquet is a masterclass in balance, weaving together the spicy, peppery esters of the house yeast with notes of ripe banana and a subtle hint of vanilla. Brewed with delicate Pilsener malts and pale candy sugar, the beer delivers a clean, honey-like sweetness that provides a soft canvas for the floral and herbal contributions of Styrian Goldings and Saaz hops. Despite its potent 9.5% ABV, it remains remarkably elegant, finishing with a lingering, signature dryness and a refined, firm bitterness.
Appearance. Golden-yellow (5-6 SRM). Brilliant clarity. Dense, creamy, rocky white head with exceptional retention and characteristic Belgian lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Complex bouquet of peppery and clove-like phenols, moderate fruity esters of ripe banana and citrus, and a light, honey-like Pilsener malt base. Moderate spicy and floral hop character with soft, well-integrated alcohol.
Taste. Initial soft, grainy-sweet malt flavor followed by complex spicy phenols and fruity esters. Medium to high bitterness is accentuated by high attenuation. Firm hop flavor with floral and herbal notes. Finishes very dry and long with a lingering, elegant bitterness and spicy yeast character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body, appearing lighter than the gravity suggests. Very high carbonation providing an effervescent, spritzy quality. Smooth, creamy texture with a deceptive, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
