Strong generous off white head. Initial odor is of candy and alcohol notes with some spiciness. Definite spiciness and tartness in the taste. Finishes bitter but slightly dry. Hazy orange-amber beer with chunks of sediment in it. It pours with a thick, white head that lasts the entire glass. The aroma sweet and fruity, with yeast, apricot, clove and banana notes prevalent. It is a very complex aroma that is reminiscent of some weizens as well as the standard triple smells. The taste is dominated by alcohol up front, which gives way to a very strong clove flavor. Sweetness fills in behind the alcohol fumes, which has hints of carmelized sugar and banana. A robust bitterness finishes off the flavor profile. A unique lingering aftertaste is also pleasant, and reminiscent of alcohol-laced bubble gum. The mouthfeel is very rich, and coats the tongue while still having a lightness to it due to the fine carbonation.

Was first brewed in 1934 and the recipe has not changed since 1956. It is made with pale candy sugar and has a very pale color produced from a mash of light pilsener malts. Styrian Goldings hops are used along with some German varieties and the classic Saaz pilsener hop. After a long secondary fermentation, the Tripel Westmalle is bottled with a dose of sugar and yeast. This beer holds up well in the bottle over time and seems to soften with age.

La Westmalle Triple est une triple très particulière car sa robe est très pale pour une bière aussi forte en alcool. Ce résultat est obtenu via l'utilisation de malts pilsner et de sucre candy pour faire monter le dégré d'alcool. Les houblons utilisés principalement allemand dont le Saaz pilsner. La recette n'a d'ailleurs pas changée depuis 1956 tandis que la recette fut élaborée pour la première fois en 1934
