Viven Imperial IPA
Viven Imperial IPA bridges the gap between Belgian brewing precision and the aggressive hop profile of a West Coast Double IPA. Utilizing Tomahawk and Simcoe hops, it delivers an intense sensory profile defined by sharp grapefruit citrus, resinous pine, and delicate floral highlights. The nose evokes a dew-covered coniferous forest, while the palate is dominated by a firm, clean bitterness that never becomes harsh. Despite its strength, the malt backbone remains unobtrusive, providing a lean, pale base that allows the complex hop oils to shine. It finishes exceptionally dry with a lingering, resinous aftertaste typical of the style.
Appearance. Pours a deep gold to pale amber with a noticeable yellow-greenish hue and a persistent, thick white head. While many modern versions are clear, this Belgian-influenced version presents a slight haze and visible turbidity.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma. Prominent notes of resinous pine and damp forest floor from the Simcoe hops, complemented by pungent citrus zest and grapefruit from the Tomahawk. A clean, neutral grainy malt background supports the hops, while fermentation esters remain low to neutral.
Taste. The initial impression is a burst of hop flavor featuring grapefruit peel and resinous sap. A high level of bitterness is immediately apparent but well-integrated into a lean malt profile of crackers and light toasted grain. Mid-palate reveals floral nuances. The finish is very dry and crisp, with a long-lasting, bitter, and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a lively sensation. There is a noticeable but restrained and smooth alcohol warmth that avoids being hot or solventy. No hop-derived astringency is present.
