VIF L'Ouest
VIF L'Ouest is a quintessential American Pale Ale that highlights the classic interplay between Simcoe and Cascade hops. It presents a clean, foundational malt profile derived from Pils and Munich malts, enriched with a touch of Wheat for texture and Cara malts for subtle depth. The US-05 yeast ensures a crisp, neutral canvas, allowing the Simcoe's signature resinous pine and Cascade's vibrant grapefruit and floral notes to take center stage. With a firm but approachable bitterness and a dry finish, this beer balances refreshing drinkability with the bold, aromatic character characteristic of West Coast inspiration.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (7 SRM). Topped by a persistent, moderately large white head with fine lacing. Generally clear, though the addition of Wheat may introduce a very slight, brilliant haze.
Aroma. Moderate to high hop intensity featuring distinct notes of pine, forest resin, and zesty grapefruit. Behind the hops, a clean, grainy-sweet malt presence suggests toasted bread and light honey from the Munich and Pils malts. Fermentation is very clean with no significant esters.
Taste. The palate leads with hop-forward flavors of citrus peel and resinous pine. A sturdy malt backbone provides balance, offering low levels of caramel and bready richness. Bitterness is firm and well-integrated, leading to a medium-dry, crisp finish where lingering floral hop notes persist without harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture from the wheat. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing prickle on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated at 6% ABV.
