Inspired by the classic Altstadt traditions of Düsseldorf, this Altbier presents a deep copper brilliance topped with a creamy, long-lasting head. The sensory profile is defined by a sophisticated balance of rich, grainy malts reminiscent of toasted bread crusts and a frank, assertive bitterness. High attenuation ensures a clean, dry finish that highlights the spicy and floral notes of traditional German hops. While it exhibits the complexity of an ale, the cold conditioning results in a lager-like smoothness, making for a remarkably crisp and structured experience that emphasizes malt depth without any cloying sweetness.
Appearance. Deep copper to bronze-orange (12-16 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a thick, creamy, long-lasting off-white head.
Aroma. Moderate to moderately-high malt richness, featuring notes of baked bread and nutty, toasted bread crusts. Complemented by moderate-low spicy and floral hop character. Clean fermentation profile with virtually no esters.
Taste. Firm, assertive bitterness balanced by a rich, bready malt backbone. Flavors of toasted grain and crust predominate without roasted or chocolate notes. The hop flavor is spicy and floral. Finishes very dry and clean with a lingering, pleasant bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, well-conditioned palate. Medium-high carbonation provides a crisp edge. Negligible alcohol warmth and no astringency.
