Verdant’s 2026 edition of Putty is a quintessential Double IPA, celebrated for its signature pillowy texture and unmistakable haze. An intense aromatic profile driven by Mosaic, Galaxy, and Azacca hops explodes with notes of overripe mango, passionfruit, and zesty citrus. At 8% ABV, the beer carries a gentle, well-integrated warmth that supports a dense, juice-like palate. This iconic release balances a soft, low-astringency bitterness with massive tropical fruit saturation, finishing with a lingering resinous character. It represents a masterclass in hop-forward intensity, delivering a smooth, lush experience that remains clean and remarkably drinkable despite its strength.

Appearance. Pale gold to light orange (6-8 SRM). Deeply hazy to opaque. Features a thick, creamy, white head with excellent persistence and dense lacing.

Aroma. High intensity. Prominent waves of tropical fruit—specifically mango, pineapple, and passionfruit—intermingle with bright citrus notes of grapefruit and orange peel. A very low, neutral, grainy malt presence stays in the background. Clean fermentation profile with a hint of smooth alcohol.

Taste. Dominant hop flavors of tropical fruit and stone fruit, mirroring the aroma. Initial impression is of sweet citrus juice followed by a soft, moderately high bitterness that lacks any harshness or hop burn. The malt character is supportive and bready but unobtrusive. The finish is medium-dry with a long-lasting, resinous tropical aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a distinctively pillowy, soft, and creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. Displays a well-integrated, smooth alcohol warmth without being solventy. Low astringency.

The can art, animation and branding, designed by Craig Boylan, embody our ‘Be Weird’ message visually. Craig’s style evolved from experimenting with 3D versions of Bauhaus posters, which led to his Baumann character and a toy-like, minimal style. For this project, Craig kept his Baumann character at the forefront and explored the idea that being weird is both an internal and external trait. This inspired him to examine the Baumann character’s mind and imagine three different states: Contemplation, Projection, and the innermost state… WEIRD!

As you probably already know, we initially envisioned Putty as a distinctive beer, crafted for the debut of the Hop City festival back in 2017. We aimed to create something that could proudly stand alongside the heavyweights in the hazy beer world and create some hype for our Verdant Brewing Co... and it certainly did! Within a few hours, we were completely sold out, and the demand persisted. It was clear that we had to brew it again.

Since that inaugural success, Putty has been an annual release in January, and of course, we've stuck to the original recipe for this Double IPA. It features a malt base of Golden Promise, a higher-than-normal proportion of wheat malt, along with generous amounts of oats and flaked wheat to provide a well-rounded flavour. The water profile is delicately soft, and we employ substantial whirlpool additions of Galaxy, Mosaic, and Azacca hops. This is followed by an extensive dry hop, with equal parts Mosaic/Galaxy and slightly less Azacca.

Glowing like a satsuma in a pint of double cream and hopped to hell and back with Galaxy, Mosaic and Azacca. Dank and sweaty, but oh so fruity with it too! Deep mangoes, apricots and freshly cut grass pervade your senses. As always we've layered up the malts with an emphasis on Golden Promise and wheat malts for a bread crust base, sacks and sacks of flaked wheat and oats bump up the creamy density further. First brewed in 2017 and remains unchanged to this day. Huge pillowy body, slight orange golden tinge and masses of creamy dank hop saturation delivered upon every sip.
