The taste is tart and dry but has a certain roundness that makes this Gueuze à l’ancienne particularly accessible for non-experts. It will also delight fans of the genre for its sweet complexity. It also has a slight dry bitterness because of the youth of the oak barrels used, as they still release some tannins. It has a fresh lemony nose.

Allereerste batch! Gueuzerie Tilquin Quetsche is een fruitbier op basis van lambiek en pruimen. De pruimen komen van Namur of van Alsace naargelang de beschikbaarheid. Deze ontpitte pruimen worden op een mengeling van 1 en 2 jaar oude lambiek gelegd waar deze gedurende 4 maanden rijpen. De lambiek werkt vervolgens in op de vruchten, de gisten gaan het fruit vergisten en de smaak van het fruit gaat over op de gehele batch. Tot slot wordt de Quetsche afgewerkt middels hergisting op fles gedurende 3 maanden. Het resultaat is een heel licht sprankelende drank met mild fruitige toetsen, een zurige aanzet en een droge afdronk. De Quetsche is niet gefilterd en niet gepasteuriseerd en bereid met vers fruit.

The Tilquin Oude Gueuze poured a hazy, golden yellow color with a massive white head. The aroma had a nice citrusy fruit character with some barnyard funkiness underneath. The flavor started out with a good sourness, more fruity - citrus - than acidic. I could also taste some brettanomyces funkiness, before the beer ended on a tart note. A nice, not too complex, refreshing and easy to drink gueuze. A promising debut from Tilquin!
