The Alchemist’s flagship Double IPA is a masterclass in hop saturation, defined by a proprietary blend of six hops that deliver complex layers of sensory impact. The experience begins with intense waves of pink grapefruit and bright orange, transitioning into deeper notes of tropical fruit and resinous pine with a hint of spice. While the hop intensity is high, the bitterness remains smooth and devoid of astringency, supported by just enough bready malt to provide a firm backbone. This iconic beer balances its 8% ABV with a dry, clean finish, ensuring the vibrant hop character remains the undisputed protagonist from start to finish.
Appearance. SRM 6-8. Hazy gold to light orange-copper with a persistent, dense, white foam head and fine lacing.
Aroma. Intense and complex hop aroma featuring prominent pink grapefruit, orange zest, and tropical mango, layered with resinous pine and a touch of peppery spice. Low, clean, bready malt presence in the background with a neutral fermentation profile and a hint of clean alcohol.
Taste. High hop flavor intensity following the aroma: layers of citrus and tropical fruit underpinned by a piney resin. Firm but smooth bitterness that avoids harshness or astringency. Minimal caramel; instead, a soft, grainy malt backbone. Very dry finish with a lingering, resinous hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Medium-high carbonation. Subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth without any solvent notes or hop-derived astringency.
