Belgian Blonde Ale 6.5 º 23 IBU
Steenbrugge Blond offers a warm, inviting take on the Belgian Blond Ale, defined by its signature Bruges "gruut" herb blend and unique fermentation character. A foundation of grainy-sweet Pilsner malt provides a honey-like base that carries the brewery’s distinctive yeast profile, which contributes fruity lemon esters and a delicate, unexpected hint of smoke. This herbal complexity weaves through a smooth, full-bodied palate, balanced by a restrained bitterness. Secondary fermentation in the bottle ensures a lively effervescence, leading to a soft, dry finish where the interplay of spicy phenols and botanical gruut notes lingers gracefully.
Appearance. Deep gold color (6 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a large, dense, and creamy off-white head that demonstrates excellent retention and leaves intricate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring grainy-sweet malt and light honey-like sweetness. The yeast-driven profile offers clear orange and lemon esters alongside a unique, subtle smoky phenol. A delicate, spicy-herbal background emerges from the Bruges gruut mixture, complementing the faint earthy hop character.
Taste. Initial impression of sweet, crackery malt and light caramelized sugar. This is quickly joined by fruity esters and the signature Bruges gruut, providing a soft peppery spice. Bitterness is medium and well-integrated, allowing the malt to remain slightly more prominent in the balance. The finish is medium-dry, smooth, and soft, with a lingering hint of spicy yeast and herbs.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with high carbonation that creates a bubbly, mouth-filling sensation. Smooth, light alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. The beer possesses a slightly creamy texture that softens the finish.
