Тогда в этом месте было основано аббатство. При нем был варочный цех, в котором и варили пиво для монахов. А вот официальная история пивоварни SHEPHERD NEAME велась с 1698 года. Так, по крайней мере, до недавнего времени считал ее владелец. Однако в ходе реставрации здания были обнаружены некие документы, которые подтверждают существование пивоварни со второй половины 16 века.
