Dilemma is a decadent English Barley Wine that showcases a complex malt backbone of Maris Otter, Amber, Caramalt, Munich, and Aromatic malts. It pours a deep amber with ruby highlights, releasing intense aromas of toffee, toasted biscuit, and dark fruits. The addition of Rakau and Styrian Golding hops contributes subtle notes of stone fruit and earthy marmalade, balancing the rich malt sweetness. Seven months of maturation in new, medium-toasted French oak barrels imparts elegant layers of vanilla, subtle spice, and a velvety structure. At 10.5% ABV, it offers a sophisticated, warming finish that lingers with notes of dried plum and toasted oak.

Appearance. Deep amber to mahogany with brilliant clarity and ruby highlights. A thin, creamy off-white head shows low retention, leaving noticeable legs on the glass due to high alcohol and viscosity.

Aroma. High intensity malt profile featuring Maris Otter-driven toffee and biscuit, complemented by the toasted notes of Munich malt. Moderate esters of dried plum and raisin are present, alongside floral and earthy hop notes from Styrian Golding and a hint of stone fruit from Rakau. Subtle vanilla and toasted wood from the French oak barrels add complexity.

Taste. Initial impression is of rich, multi-layered malt sweetness including caramel, bread crust, and biscuit from the Maris Otter and Aromatic malts. A complex fruitiness emerges with dark cherry and apricot notes. Hop bitterness is moderate, providing enough structure to prevent cloying. The finish is long and warming with lingering toasted oak, light tannins, and a touch of vinous character.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and remarkably chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is evident but not harsh, contributing to a luxurious, sipping experience.
