This liquid legacy offers a deeply layered malt profile featuring notes of dark chocolate, molasses, and toasted nuts, harmonized by a vibrant bouquet of dried dark fruits like prunes and cherries. The presence of smooth, Schwarzbier-like roasted character provides depth without harshness, while a well-integrated alcohol warmth suggests a vinous, Port-like complexity. Elegant and full-bodied, it balances its initial malty sweetness with a clean fermentation and a lingering, dryish finish of licorice and cold-brew coffee.
Appearance. 25–30 SRM; deep mahogany to opaque dark brown with reddish highlights. Thick, persistent, tan-colored head with excellent lacing; clear in bright light despite its depth.
Aroma. High intensity of rich Munich malt with dominant notes of toffee, toasted bread, and dark chocolate. Prominent esters of plum, raisin, and black cherry are balanced by a refined, warming alcohol note reminiscent of fortified wine. Clean fermentation with no hop aroma.
Taste. Richly malty and complex; initial flavors of caramel and molasses transition into a smooth, debittered roast character suggesting coffee and cocoa. The mid-palate introduces dried fruit esters and a gentle, spicy alcohol warmth. Medium-low bitterness provides balance against the malt sweetness, leading to a long, clean finish with traces of dark chocolate and licorice.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and remarkably smooth; medium-high carbonation provides a mouth-filling texture that prevents the beer from feeling heavy. Significant but well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable but never harsh; no astringency.
