Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, persistent deep tan head that leaves significant lacing. Visible viscosity is apparent in the form of slow-moving legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity. Dominant aromas of bittersweet chocolate and Dutch-process cocoa. Supporting notes of roasted coffee, black licorice, and burnt grain. Moderate esters of dried plum and raisin. Low earthy hop character with a subtle, clean alcohol presence.

Taste. Rich and complex. Initial flavors of dark chocolate fudge and espresso. Mid-palate reveals toasted bread and caramel malt sweetness balanced by a firm, aggressively high bitterness. The added cocoa provides a deep, authentic chocolate layer. Moderate dark fruit esters like fig. Finish is moderately sweet but balanced by roast, trailing into a long, bittersweet, and warming aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. Noticeable, smooth alcohol warmth is well-integrated and pleasant. No astringency.
