Põhjala Värske 2024 is a vibrant expression of the harvest, bridging the gap between a classic German Pils and the resinous vitality of fresh-off-the-vine hops. Brewed with a massive addition of whole cone Most hops, it radiates an intense perfume of crushed wildflowers, herbal spice, and a distinct green freshness unique to wet hops. A base of continental Pilsner malt provides a clean, crackery foundation with hints of sweet dough, supporting the assertive bitterness. The experience is exceptionally crisp and dry, defined by the snap of Estonian brewing precision and the oily, aromatic depth of the Czech-grown Most hops.
Appearance. Straw to pale gold (3 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a dense, creamy, long-lasting white head that leaves intricate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent flowery, spicy, and herbal notes. The whole cone Most hops contribute a unique fresh-cut grass and damp earth quality. Supporting this is a low to medium grainy-sweet malt profile with hints of toasted cracker and light honey. Fermentation is perfectly clean.
Taste. Initial toasted cracker malt flavor is quickly overtaken by a firm, assertive hop bitterness. Flavors of spicy herbs and floral blossoms dominate the mid-palate. The balance is decidedly bitter and leaning toward the hops. It finishes very dry and crisp with a lingering minerally snap and a clean, refreshing aftertaste of noble hops.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation that provides a prickly, refreshing scrub on the palate. No alcohol warmth is present. The texture is lean and crisp with a slight flinty sharpness that accentuates the dry finish.
