Rudolf is a massive expression of the Wheatwine style, uniquely transformed by the inclusion of rye and maturation in Finnish rye whisky barrels. The sensory profile is anchored by a dense, bready wheat foundation that integrates seamlessly with the sharp, peppery spice of rye grain. Layers of honey, rich caramel, and concentrated dried fruits like figs and raisins provide profound depth. The barrel aging contributes sophisticated notes of charred oak, vanilla, and a distinct, grainy whisky warmth. Despite its 12% ABV, the beer maintains a velvety, sleek character, finishing with a harmonious balance of decadent malt sweetness and spicy oak tannins.
Appearance. Deep amber with pronounced garnet highlights. Features a low, creamy, off-white head with moderate retention and significant legs on the glass, indicating high viscosity and alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring rich, bready wheat and honeyed malt, accented by the sharp, peppery spice of rye. Deep notes of raisin and dried plum emerge from fermentation, while the Finnish rye whisky barrels contribute distinct oak, vanilla, and a clean alcohol presence. No banana or clove yeast character is present.
Taste. Initial impressions of bready wheat and caramel sweetness are met by a bold, grainy rye spiciness. Flavors of honey and toasted biscuit are layered with dark fruit notes of fig and date. Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a chewy, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, providing a gentle lift. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its high strength and barrel aging, without being harsh or fusel.
