This Imperial Porter presents a luxurious sensory experience, defined by a mountain of raspberries that translates into a lush, jammy profile. Intense aromas of ripe red fruit intertwine with deep layers of dark chocolate and roasted espresso. On the palate, the tartness of the raspberries balances a rich malt backbone of chocolate malt and black malt, offering a complex interplay of sweetness and charred bitterness. Despite the high strength, the alcohol is well-integrated, providing a gentle warmth that enhances the velvety, full-bodied mouthfeel. It finishes with a lingering dark fruit character and a refined, slightly dry roastiness.
Appearance. Opaque very dark brown to black with brilliant ruby-red highlights. Topped by a thick, creamy, tan-colored head with excellent retention and persistent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity; dominated by fresh, jammy raspberry and dark forest fruits. Supporting notes of bittersweet chocolate, medium-strong coffee roast, and a hint of caramel sweetness. Low earthy hop character and moderate dark-fruit esters are present.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tart raspberry jam followed by a robust roasted malt presence. Flavors of dark chocolate and lightly burnt grain provide depth. Bitterness is medium-high, balancing the fruit sweetness. The finish is medium-sweet and lingering with a touch of roasted astringency.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its high gravity without being sharp or hot.
