This imperial-strength Baltic Porter presents a decadent sensory experience defined by its depth and local rye character. An intense aroma of molasses, licorice, and dark chocolate leads into a complex layer of prunes and black currants. The addition of rye provides a distinct spicy earthiness that cuts through the rich, bready Munich malt base. On the palate, a velvety sweetness transitions into smooth, roasted coffee notes without a hint of harshness. Despite the formidable strength, it maintains a clean fermentation profile, finishing with a warming, vinous glow and a lingering touch of dried fruit and rye spice.
Appearance. Opaque deep brown with garnet highlights; a thick, persistent, creamy tan head leaves significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity; rich malt notes of toasted bread, molasses, and dark chocolate are complemented by a complex ester profile of raisins and plums, with a subtle spicy rye undertone and clean alcohol warmth.
Taste. Initial rich malt sweetness featuring toffee and licorice; mid-palate reveals dark berry fruitiness and spicy rye grain, followed by a smooth, de-bittered roast character. Finishes dryish with a lingering port-wine warmth and coffee bean aftertaste.
