Põhjala Double Kosmos is an intergalactic Double IPA that presents a bold sensory experience. It pours a hazy, deep gold with a thick, persistent white head. The aroma is a high-intensity fusion of tropical fruits, offering notes of mango and pineapple alongside bright grapefruit zest and a subtle resinous undertone. On the palate, the hop-forward character dominates, delivering complex layers of stone fruit and citrus over a lean, supportive malt base of cracker and light grain. Despite its 8% ABV, it remains remarkably drinkable, featuring a firm but smooth bitterness that leads to a clean, dry, and lingering hoppy finish.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (8-10 SRM) with a significant, persistent, and creamy white head. The beer exhibits a pronounced haze consistent with the brewer's intent for an intergalactic presentation.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring a complex blend of tropical fruit, passionfruit, and citrus. Background malt is clean, neutral, and grainy. The fermentation profile is clean with very low esters and a subtle, well-integrated alcohol presence.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of mango, grapefruit, and pine dominate from the first sip. Bitterness is firm and moderately high, yet smooth and lacking any harshness. A low, supportive bready malt character balances the hop load. The finish is dry with a long-lasting, fruity, and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a lively mouthfeel. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present but remains well-integrated without any solvent notes or astringency.
