Code September is a bold West Coast Double IPA that leads with a vibrant interplay of classic American hops. The double dry-hopping with Simcoe, Centennial, and Columbus creates an aromatic profile reminiscent of candy-covered oranges and resinous pine. On the palate, the resinous Columbus and pine-forward Simcoe provide a sturdy foundation, while Centennial adds bright floral and citrus notes. This beer maintains the signature West Coast profile, balancing its 8% ABV with a crisp, dry finish and a firm bitterness that keeps the fruit-forward character from becoming cloying. It is a clean, punchy expression of modern hop intensity within a classic, bitter framework.
Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper (SRM 7-10). Brilliant clarity with a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head that leaves consistent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring bright citrus, candied orange peel, and heavy resinous pine. A clean, neutral, grainy malt character sits in the background. Low floral notes and a soft, clean alcohol presence are detectable.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of orange, lemon, and dank pine resin. Moderately high bitterness that is firm but smooth. A low, clean malt support provides subtle bready notes. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a long, lingering hoppy and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture. Carbonation is medium-high. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present without being hot or solventy.
