En 1979, Samuel Smith introdujo de nuevo este popular estilo usando la receta original, lo que inspiró el renacimiento del estilo en el resto del planeta. En palabras del gran maestro cervecero Michael Jackson, esta Taddy Porter es "una de las cinco mejores cervezas del mundo"
Samuel Smith es de las pocas cervecerías independientes que aún permanecen en pie en Inglaterra. Una de sus grandes señas de tradición y artesanía es que aún siguen empleando para la fermentación de sus cervezas los tanques abiertos de pizarra de Yorkshire, que se usaban antiguamente en la región de Tadcaster. Samuel Smith fue fundada en 1758 con el nombre de The Old Brewery y desde entonces no ha sufrido grandes cambios desde que pasara a manos de la familia Smith en 1847. La levadura empleada en la actualidad es la misma desde hace 5 generaciones, el lúpulo lo siguen añadiendo a mano y el agua la siguen extrayendo en baldes de cobre de un aljibe con 250 años de antiguedad. Por si todo esto fuera poco para conservar las buenas tradiciones, también mantienen la figura del maestro tonelero que fabrica los barriles donde se almacena la cerveza antes de su embotellado. Samuel Smith fue presentada por primera vez en el mercado estadounidense en 1978, y se convirtió rápidamente entodo un referente del movimiento emergente craft. Sus cervezas también están reconocidas como productos veganos y están registradas en The Vegan Society. Sin duda, estamos ante la cervecería más tradicional del Reino Unido y una de las que mayor prestigio ha alcanzado gracias a la calidad y autenticidad de sus cervezas. Vista: color marrón oscuro, casi opaca, con una buena espuma beige muy compacta y abundante. Olfato: aromas de café, cacao, malta tostada y caramelo. Gusto: en boca tiene notas de cacao, café, ligeros torrefactos y fruto seco, terminando con un amargor muy sutil.
Sensación: cerveza de cuerpo medio, textura sedosa, increíblemente buena y perfecta para acompañar con unos chocolates.

Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery è un birrificio indipendente inglese, il più antico dello Yorkshire. Fondato nel 1758, viene associato a Samuel Smith, che lo acquistò e lo fece diventare un punto di riferimento dell’economia locale.
La fama del birrificio venne anche omaggiata dalla penna di Charles Dickens, che lo menzionò in suo romanzo. Samuel Smith prosegue la produzione di birra di qualità secondo i canoni della tradizione anglosassone; nel birrificio viene utilizzata la coltura di lievito da oltre due secoli e alcune attrezzature antiche, come le vasche per la fermentazione.
La gamma produttiva include numerose birre, la maggior parte delle quali legata a stili inglesi, e birre più ricercate, oltre a due tipologie di sidro. Alcune birre di Samuel Smith sono diventate dei riferimenti per lo stile birrario che rappresentano.
