Northern Monk’s Heathen is a quintessential Hazy IPA that showcases the vibrant, tropical power of Citra hops. Built upon a foundation of British pale malt, this 7.2% brew delivers an explosive sensory experience driven by massive triple dry-hopping. The aroma is a bold invitation of mango, passionfruit, and bright citrus that fills the air instantly. On the palate, a soft, pillowy texture carries intense layers of juicy pineapple and peach, balanced by a subtle, resinous pine undertone. This hop-forward profile is supported by a gentle, fruity bitterness and a clean malt backbone, resulting in a remarkably smooth and immersive modern IPA experience.
Appearance. Color is a luminous straw to light orange (approximately 5 SRM). It features a thick, rocky, meringue-like white head with high retention and significant lacing. The beer is characteristically hazy and near-opaque with a bright shine.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma dominated by tropical fruit notes of mango, papaya, and guava. Significant citrus zest and a light resinous undertone are present. Background malt is low, presenting as clean, bready, and grainy British pale malt. Fermentation is clean with supportive fruity esters.
Taste. High to very high fruity hop flavors reflecting the Citra additions: pineapple, passion fruit, and sweet citrus. Malt flavor is low to medium-low, providing a soft, bready foundation. Bitterness is moderate but perceived as soft and smooth, never harsh. The finish is off-dry and juicy with a lingering resinous hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy texture. Carbonation is moderate. There is a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth. The mouthfeel is smooth and devoid of any hop astringency or raw grain harshness.
