Northern Monk

Northern Monk’s Heathen is a quintessential Hazy IPA that showcases the vibrant, tropical power of Citra hops. Built upon a foundation of British pale malt, this 7.2% brew delivers an explosive sensory experience driven by massive triple dry-hopping. The aroma is a bold invitation of mango, passionfruit, and bright citrus that fills the air instantly. On the palate, a soft, pillowy texture carries intense layers of juicy pineapple and peach, balanced by a subtle, resinous pine undertone. This hop-forward profile is supported by a gentle, fruity bitterness and a clean malt backbone, resulting in a remarkably smooth and immersive modern IPA experience.

Appearance. Color is a luminous straw to light orange (approximately 5 SRM). It features a thick, rocky, meringue-like white head with high retention and significant lacing. The beer is characteristically hazy and near-opaque with a bright shine.

Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma dominated by tropical fruit notes of mango, papaya, and guava. Significant citrus zest and a light resinous undertone are present. Background malt is low, presenting as clean, bready, and grainy British pale malt. Fermentation is clean with supportive fruity esters.

Taste. High to very high fruity hop flavors reflecting the Citra additions: pineapple, passion fruit, and sweet citrus. Malt flavor is low to medium-low, providing a soft, bready foundation. Bitterness is moderate but perceived as soft and smooth, never harsh. The finish is off-dry and juicy with a lingering resinous hop aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy texture. Carbonation is moderate. There is a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth. The mouthfeel is smooth and devoid of any hop astringency or raw grain harshness.

Een gedurfde maar evenwichtige New England IPA. Zacht, harsachtig en tropisch. Voor de heidenen. De in Amerika gekweekte Citra-hop maakte met een knal zijn opwachting in de industrie en veroverde de ambachtelijke brouwscene met zijn buitenaardse tropische fruitsmaak en aroma. Onze versie van deze sappige hop gebruikt het beste van zijn uitzonderlijke eigenschappen om een gedurfde maar evenwichtige IPA te brouwen. Een eenvoudige basis van Britse bleke mout wordt gekleurd door kleine keteltoevoegingen van onze Britse en Amerikaanse hopmix voor een zachte, fruitige bitterheid. Als het tijd is voor drooghoppen, schakelen de brouwers over op een hogere versnelling met 16 kg Citra, verdeeld over drie toevoegingen, die de brouwers in het bier verwerken voor de ultieme sappige, harsachtige smaakervaring en een aroma van tropisch fruit dat uw reukzin van de andere kant van de kamer lokt.
