Ezeket a söröket virágos, gyümölcsös, citrusos, fenyőszerű vagy gyantás komlók karaktere jellemzi, az IPA sörstílus a komló ízéről, aromájáról és keserűségéről szól.
Az India Pale Ale (IPA) az újhullámos kisüzemi sörfőzés legmeghatározóbb stílusa, eredete egészen az indiai angol gyarmatosításig nyúl vissza. A kereskedők úgy szerették volna optimalizálni a hosszú és drága hajóutat, hogy erősebb és több komló felhasználásával készült, így keserűbb, testesebb, ízesebb, ráadásul tartósabb söröket főznek, majd ezeket helyben, már felvizezett formában kínálják. Ezt gyakran az állomásozó katonák nem várták meg és csapra verték a jóval kedvesebb főzeteket. Ez a történet szolgált alapul az amerikai kisüzemi sörforradalom elindulásához nagyjából az 1980-as években, ekkor kezdtek a főzdék hasonló stílusban, rendkívül izgalmas komlóhangsúlyos, ezáltal illatos és keserű söröket főzni.

We reached beyond the veil with our friends from Astro Lab Brewing. Conjured from a base of 2-row, rye, spelt, and oats. Brought shrieking onto this plane with hefty doses of Phantasm powder in the mash and whirlpool, then bound with huge additions of Riwaka, Nectaron, Motueka, and a touch of Vic Secret. Double-dry-hopped with more of the same, then fermented on Omega’s Cosmic Punch. Deep notes of white wine grape, lush tropical fruit, complex pine, and the screams of the damned.
