This Imperial Stout offers a decadent sensory journey inspired by traditional Hungarian walnut cake. An intense bouquet of toasted Walnuts and bittersweet Cacao Nibs leads the experience, underpinned by the creamy, aromatic sweetness of Vanilla. At 12.1% ABV, the dark, roasted malt profile provides a robust foundation of coffee and dark chocolate notes. The palate is rich and layered, balancing deep roasty bitterness with a lingering, dessert-like sweetness that evokes a complex pastry character. Nuanced dark fruit esters of prune and raisin emerge as it warms, creating a harmonious and velvety finish that showcases both brewer's intent and high-quality ingredients.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). A dense, deep tan head with moderate retention leaves thick lacing on the glass. High viscosity is apparent through visible legs.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich roasted grain, espresso, and bittersweet Cacao Nibs dominate. Toasted Walnuts add an earthy, nutty complexity, while Vanilla provides a sweet, floral bridge. Low esters of plum and dried fig.
Taste. Initial impression of rich dark chocolate and toasted nuts. The malt flavor is deep with layers of burnt toast and cocoa. Walnuts provide a distinct mid-palate earthiness. Moderate bitterness is present but countered by Vanilla sweetness. The finish is lingering and sweet with a pleasant roasted aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a chewy, velvety, and luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the 12.1% ABV.
