Inspired by the Finnish Long Drink, this Imperial Straight Sour Beer delivers a potent sensory experience. A bold lactic acidity leads, instantly brightened by the sharp, pithy character of grapefruit and fragrant orange zest. The aroma is highly aromatic, showcasing the gin-like influence of juniper berries alongside the cooling, herbal spice of cardamom. Despite its 10% ABV, the profile remains crisp, supported by a subtle foundation of crackery pale malt. The finish is intensely dry and refreshing, with a lingering botanical complexity and a well-integrated alcohol warmth that elevates the citrus and spice profile into a complex, spirit-like territory.
Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (3 SRM); initially forms a dense white head with poor retention typical of high-acid beers; slight haze from fruit and spice additions.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant sharp lactic sourness and fresh grapefruit peel; secondary notes of piney juniper and herbal, floral cardamom; very low crackery malt; no hop aroma.
Taste. Immediate, punchy lactic sourness melds with tart grapefruit and citrus zest; mid-palate reveals botanical juniper and spicy cardamom; finish is bone-dry and acidic; alcohol is present but clean; no hop bitterness or flavor.
Mouthfeel. Medium body—heavier than standard examples due to the high gravity—with high carbonation and a crisp, effervescent bite; significant but smooth alcohol warmth.
