Lupulus Hopera
Lupulus Hopera is an expressive Specialty IPA that balances a vibrant hop character with a structured, amber-toned foundation. It offers a powerful sensory experience defined by a broad aromatic palette of exotic fruits and tropical notes, a result of extensive dry-hopping. The beer is notably dry, showcasing a pronounced yet carefully controlled bitterness that avoids harshness. While the hop profile remains the centerpiece, a background of light toasted malt provides necessary support without introducing heavy sweetness. This creates a crisp, refreshing profile where the hop intensity and Belgian-influenced fermentation character harmonize into a clean, lingering finish.
Appearance. Copper to amber in color (10-14 SRM). Displays a slight haze with visible carbonation. Topped by a persistent, off-white head that leaves moderate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma with a complex profile of exotic fruit, mango, and passion fruit, accompanied by light citrus and resinous notes. Low to moderate malt presence with hints of toasted bread and light caramel. A clean fermentation profile, though subtle spicy esters may be present.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward and crisp. Moderate to high hop flavors of tropical fruit and grapefruit dominate. Malt flavor is low to medium, providing a light toasty backbone. Bitterness is firm and pronounced (representative of approximately 50-60 IBUs) but remains smooth. The finish is distinctly dry and clean with a lingering, pleasant bitterness and minimal hop astringency.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with moderate to high carbonation that enhances the dry sensation. Smooth texture with very light alcohol warmth and no notable astringency.

2004 wurde die Brauerei Lupulus in einem alten Bauernhaus in den belgischen Ardennen von Pierre Gobron gegründet, der 1982 bereits die Brauerei Achouffe gründete und die Chouffe Biere zu weltweiter Popularität führte. Das Ziel war es anfangs ein lokales Restaurant mit selbstgebrautem Bier zu beliefern. Nach dem Verkauf der Braurei Achouffe an Duvel-Moortgat im Jahr 2006 verließ Pierre Gobron Achouffe, um sich auf dieses neue Bierprojekt zu fokussieren und zu expandieren. 2007 kam das erste Bier der neuen Brauerei auf den Markt, das Lupulus Blonde. Der Name der Brauerei ist eine Hommage an die Hopfenpflanze (humulus lupulus) and nimmt ebenfalls Bezug auf den Wolf (Canis lupus), der einst durch die Wälder der Ardennen streifte und der die Etiketten der Brauerei ziert. Die Brauerei trägt das Label "Belgian Family Brewers".
Lupulus Hopera ist ein Pale, das mit Herkules und Simcoe gekocht und mit australischem Ella kaltgehopft wird. Ella verleiht blumige und gleichzeitig würzige Aromen von Passionsfrucht, Pfirsich, Lavendel, Anis und Grapefruit. Mittlere Süße, mittlere Bitterkeit, spürbarere Kohlensäure.
