LoverBeer Papëssa is a sophisticated Russian Imperial Stout that bridges 18th-century English tradition with modern craftsmanship. This mahogany-hued ale features a velvety texture derived from the generous use of oats, providing a smooth canvas for its complex roasted profile. The inclusion of Columbus hops adds a distinctive resinous counterpoint to deep layers of espresso and dark cocoa. Twelve months of maturation in barrique imparts a refined vinous character, reminiscent of fortified wine, while British yeast contributes subtle dried fruit esters. Eschewing modern trends toward syrupy sweetness, it achieves an eternal balance with a signature hint of acidity and salinity in the finish.
Appearance.Deep ebony color, nearly opaque (35-40 SRM). Topped with a dense, creamy, cappuccino-colored head that exhibits excellent retention and fine lacing.
Aroma.High intensity with a rich blend of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Initial vinous, port-like notes from barrel aging are prominent, followed by moderate esters of raisins and dried figs. Low herbal and resinous hop aroma from Columbus hops is present, with a very light whisper of wood smoke.
Taste.Initial impression is deeply roasted, featuring flavors of coffee d'orzo and bittersweet cacao. The palate is complex, displaying toasted nuts and a refined vinous character. Bitterness is firm but integrated, balancing a light malt sweetness. The finish is remarkably structured, showing a slight acidity and a touch of salinity that cleanses the palate, ending with a lingering roasted and smoky aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium-full body with a velvety, luscious texture aided by the oats. Carbonation is moderate and smooth from bottle conditioning. Perceived alcohol warmth is gentle and well-integrated, with very low wood-derived astringency.
