This elegant Grape Ale captures the essence of the Rhône valley, fermented on Viognier pomace from Condrieu and refined in oak barrels. It presents a sophisticated sensory bridge between beer and fine wine, characterized by a lively acidity and a deep, vinous heart. The bouquet is brimming with floral honeysuckle and ripe stone fruits like apricot and peach, derived from the signature Viognier character and balanced by a subtle, drying oak tannin. The interplay of bright acidity and a clean malt base provides a crisp, refreshing structure, finishing with a lingering, sophisticated wood-influenced dryness that honors its viticultural heritage.
Appearance. Color is a brilliant pale gold (SRM 5-7). The white head is thin with medium-low retention, leaving minimal lacing, consistent with the beer's higher acidity. Clarity is excellent with no haze.
Aroma. High intensity of vinous aromatics; dominant notes of apricot, peach, and floral honeysuckle from the Viognier marc. The malt character is low and crackery. Hop aroma is absent. Subtly woody with a hint of vanilla and a sharp, clean lactic acidity.
Taste. Initial impression is vibrantly tart and vinous. Flavors of stone fruit and white grapes lead into a neutral, supportive pale malt backbone. Hop bitterness is very low, allowing the acidity to provide the primary balance. The fermentation is clean, showcasing the fruit rather than yeast esters. Finish is exceedingly dry and crisp, with a lingering aftertaste of oak tannin and grape skin.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high, effervescent carbonation reminiscent of sparkling wine. A light tannic astringency from the oak barrels and grape skins adds structure. Alcohol presence provides a light, integrated warmth.
