Appearance. Deep reddish-brown to dark chocolate brown. Good clarity despite the dark hue. Features a tan, creamy head with moderate retention and light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of rich malts with notes of toffee, treacle, and dark chocolate. Prominent fruity esters reminiscent of figs, dates, and dark cherries. A clean, low-intensity sourness is present, accompanied by subtle bourbon-derived vanilla and oak, without any vinegary acetic character.
Taste. Initial malt-forward impression of burnt sugar and dark caramel. Mid-palate reveals complex fruitiness like prunes and raisins. The sourness is smooth and well-integrated, leading to a balanced sweet-and-sour finish. Hop bitterness is very low, allowing the malt and fermentation character to lead. Hints of nutty oxidation and vanilla linger in the aftertaste.
