This Imperial Stout offers an indulgent sensory journey, defined by its nineteen-week maturation in maple syrup and raspberry liqueur barrels. The 13% ABV provides a significant backbone, manifesting as a well-integrated, smooth warmth. On the nose, intense notes of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee meld with the vibrant, tart perfume of raspberries and a rich, woody maple sweetness. The palate is profoundly complex, layering dark fruit esters like prunes and figs against a decadent backdrop of syrupy maple and bright berry liqueur. A firm roasted bitterness balances the residual sugars, culminating in a long, velvety finish that highlights the masterful barrel-aging process.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. It pours with a thick, dark tan head showing moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through distinct legs clinging to the glass.
Aroma. High intensity featuring a complex blend of dark chocolate, roasted grain, and black licorice. The raspberry liqueur barrels provide a distinct, sweet-tart berry note, while the maple influence adds a rich, caramel-like sweetness. A noticeable but smooth alcohol presence is well-integrated.
Taste. Initial impression of intense richness. Deep roasted malt flavors of cocoa and espresso are joined by the lush, fruity character of raspberries. The maple syrup barrels contribute a woody, sugary depth. Medium-high bitterness is present but well-supported by the thick malt body. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of dark fruit and roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, chewy, and viscous with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout, providing a comforting heat.
