Brasserie d’Achouffe

This iconic Belgian Golden Strong Ale presents a vibrant sensory journey, led by an effervescent golden hue and a voluminous white head. The aroma is a complex tapestry of pome fruit esters—notably pear—intertwined with the bright, citrusy zing of coriander. On the palate, a soft Pilsner malt base provides a clean canvas for spicy, herbal hop notes and a subtle peppery alcohol warmth. Despite its 8% ABV, the beer remains remarkably light and refreshing, driven by high carbonation and a crisp, dry finish. The addition of cilantro adds a unique, refreshing dimension that lifts the fruity yeast character, resulting in a balanced and sophisticated profile.

Appearance. Deep gold (approx. 5-6 SRM); massive, long-lasting, rocky white head with characteristic Belgian lacing; brilliant clarity, though a light haze may appear if bottle-conditioned yeast is decanted.

Aroma. High intensity bouquet featuring prominent pear and apple esters; moderate spicy notes from coriander and peppery phenols; low herbal hop character over a grainy-sweet Pilsner malt base; alcohol is soft and perfumy.

Taste. Initial impression is fruity and effervescent with pear-like esters and citrusy coriander; soft, neutral malt sweetness quickly gives way to moderate herbal hop flavor and a firm bitterness; fermentation is clean with peppery alcohol; finishes very dry and crisp with a lingering spicy-hop aftertaste.
