This sophisticated Imperial Stout presents an intense collision of deep roasted malts and the unmistakable influence of seven months in Islay barrels. The 11.2% alcohol provides a velvet-like warmth that carries layers of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and dark molasses. The barrel aging contributes complex threads of peat smoke, medicinal iodine, and sea salt, elevating the dark fruit esters of plum and raisin. Silky and full-bodied, the palate transitions from rich caramel sweetness to a drying, smoky finish. It is a harmonious marriage of robust grain character and the aggressive, phenolic profile of coastal scotch whisky, delivering a long and contemplative sensory experience.
Appearance. Opaque jet black (40 SRM). A thick, creamy, deep tan head provides moderate retention with significant lacing. High viscosity and alcohol content are apparent through visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant aromas of espresso and charred grain meld with the aggressive Islay barrel character of peat smoke, medicinal phenols, and earthy oak. Subtle notes of black currant and fig emerge alongside a clean, radiant alcohol presence.
Taste. Intense initial impression of dark chocolate, burnt toast, and roasted barley. The mid-palate reveals complex barrel-derived notes of heavy smoke and iodine. Bitterness is firm and assertive, balancing the residual malt sweetness. The finish is long and warming with a lingering aftertaste of cold-brew coffee and campfire.
Mouthfeel. Full and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the beer's significant weight and viscosity. A smooth, radiant alcohol warmth persists throughout without being harsh or solventy.
