This Amber Bière de Garde presents a sophisticated balance of malty depth and rustic elegance. Pouring a striking mahogany-amber with a persistent tan head, the profile is dominated by a rich malt backbone reminiscent of well-baked sourdough crust and sweet toffee. Distinctive notes of dark dates and a hint of baker’s chocolate provide layering, while a delicate black pepper spice and faint vinousness emerge in the finish. Despite its richness, the beer remains exceptionally clean and smooth, embodying the lagered character and malt-forward focus quintessential to this traditional French style.
Appearance. Mahogany-amber (14-18 SRM). Thick, persistent tan-white head with good lacing. Clear to brilliant clarity resulting from extended cold conditioning.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Rich malty aromatics of toasted sourdough bread crust and caramel-toffee. Low to moderate fruity esters resembling dried dates. Subtle spicy, black pepper notes and a hint of vinous character. Very clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial rich malt impression of toffee and biscuit. The mid-palate adds complexity with sourdough crust and a touch of bitter baker's chocolate. Low hop bitterness allows the malt to lead. Fermentation character is clean with light peppery phenols and a vinous edge. Finishes medium-dry and smooth without being cloying or heavy.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, silky texture. Moderate to high carbonation provides a lively but creamy feel. Light, well-integrated alcohol warmth for its strength. Very low astringency.
